Hylec-APL has launched TeePlug TH381, a plug and socket for underwater use and harsh environments – including permanent submersion subjected to high pressure water jets (up to 100 bar, 16 litre/min water at 80°C).
Rated IP68/IP69K, it is 14mm in diameter, with applications foreseen in outdoor lighting, such as architectural lighting, street lighting, underwater lighting, road sign illumination and billboards – plus the connection of interior and exterior Class 2 electrical devices.
IP68 water resistance is guaranteed when subjected to bending forces of up to 5kg.
The push-pull design is claimed to be intuitive and functional in use, with an audible mating click and protection against accidental disconnection by 25kg force – although this is 8kg according to EN61535, said Hylec.
“Vibration and external mechanical stresses are no problem either, as cable traction is prevented up to a force of 8kg, said the firm.
Optional safety systems include compulsory use of a tool (flat-blade screwdriver) for uncoupling.
inside, there are two poles, rated at 10A 400V ac or dc.
Wires from 0.25 to 1.5mm² without ferrules can be accommodated.
There are two variants: cable to cable and panel-mount, in two sizes to suit two cable diameters 5.8-6.9 and 7.0-8.0mm. Cable reduction grommets are available for smaller cables, or a a bigger cable gland for larger cables.
Other accessories include: sealing caps, a dedicated spanner, and a rear nut for panel-mounting.
Hylec-APL is based in Northamptonshire.
