Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A53 earlier today, and although the phone has a lot of great features to be more than competitive, not everything made the cut. Some things got lost along the way, and although we’re happy to report that the phone retains expandable storage, the 3.5mm headphone port is sadly gone.
The Galaxy A53 is the first entry in the A5x series to abandon the 3.5mm headphone port. This standard has been slowly disappearing from upper-tier smartphones. And now that wireless earbuds are becoming more popular, Samsung is ready to abandon the 3.5mm port for lower-cost devices, including the Galaxy A53.
The phone doesn’t ship with wired earbuds, so your options are to either purchase a pair of USB-C earbuds or a pair of wireless Galaxy Buds. You could still use audio equipment that’s limited to the 3.5mm standard, but you’ll have to acquire a USB-C dongle. If you’re not dependent on the 3.5mm headphone port, your best alternative might be to look for a discount on Galaxy Buds.
Samsung’s wireless earbuds are often available for a lower-than-retail price. We usually bring discounts to light through our dedicated section, so keep an eye on our deals page if you don’t want to miss out on the next opportunity.
That is, of course, if you plan on buying the Galaxy A53, to begin with. Which brings us to the final question: is the lack of a 3.5mm audio port a deal-breaker for you? Or is the Galaxy A53 good enough to make you forget about this particular missing feature and enjoy the positive? It might be a tough choice, or maybe you’ve already made up your mind.
